The Eat List - July 2014

Update as of August 2020: This was originally posted on my now defunct tumblr blog. I am consolidating all of my old posts for posterity and updating the posts as I see fit for the new layout and style of this space.

Hi everyone! I’m introducing a new series in my blog where I share one of my favorite things: food. My fiancé and I love eating out and trying new restaurants. Most of the restaurants in this list are found in our neighborhood, Kapitolyo. We are so lucky to live in this thriving area where food tripping is a must. We, as budget conscious foodies, make sure that all meals costs around Php 500 for both of us, so this list doesn’t include a lot of high-end places.

In no particular order here are my good eats list for the month of July:

Avi (soft opening)

Where to find it: D*Strip, 20 United Street, West Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig City

What we had: Chica Cherry’s Creamy Clam Chowder (Php 145), Crisanto’s Chili Con Carne (Php 155), Lola Soledad’s Buttered Shrimp Agoile (Php 190)

For me, Avi is one of the best restaurants in Kapitolyo. From the home-y interior to their budget friendly food, there is nothing to hate. Their food costs at around Php 150 to 200 but their servings are good for two already. We over ordered that night because we didn’t imagine that the servings would be that big.

Mee Noodle Bar and Restaurant

Where to find it: Ground floor of Le Grand Tower 1, Eastwood City

What we had: Mee Goreng which costs Php 300 for the sharing size. We didn’t even get to finish it because there was a lot for two people.

This is another gem found in Eastwood. This will probably be our go to place if we wanted Asian noodles for lunch (random fact: we work in Eastwood City). I’d love to try their Kare-Kare Noodle next.

Pho 24

Where to find it: E Rodriguez Jr Avenue,Libis, Quezon City (near Eastwood City entrance)

What we had: Fresh Summer Rolls (Php 99), Beef Brisket Pho (Php 179), Grilled Chicken and Fried Spring Rolls with Rice (Php 295)

Kanto Freestyle Breakfast

Where to find it: 1st Street, Kapitolyo, Pasig City

What we had: Bacon and Eggs (Php 90)

Oh the beauty of walking distance establishments from your home never gets old. I don’t know why I’ve never ventured to this place until last week when I was feeling sick and wanted breakfast food in the afternoon during a storm.

You wouldn’t expect plates of such beauty come out in a restaurant situated in a garage (definitely, hole in the wall) and costs less than Php 100. I am in love. I want to try everything that they have. Like really the best breakfast place ever.

Crepe Man Cafe (soft opening)

Where to find it: 1st Street cor San Rafael, Kapitolyo, Pasig City

What we had: Mango Nabana Crepe (Php 100), Blueberry Crepe (Php 95)

Crunchy crepes! Yes, their crepes have this really crunchy crust, make sure you eat it while it’s hot so you can enjoy the yummy goodness!

Greek Kouzina

Where to find it: D*Strip, 20 United Street, West Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig City

What we had: Lamb Shoulders (Php 580), each entree comes with a free siding of your choice. Our choice: Greek Pita Salad. Sidings are priced at Php 195 each.

So great. The lamb is cooked really well. Their entrees are big, for 2-3 people. Will definitely come back for more!

Other restaurants we tried but didn’t quite make it to our faves:

  • Bobby Box

Where to find it: GF, Le Grand Tower 1, Eastwood City

What we had: Bulgogi box (Php 129)

I love Korean food but their food is just meh. Although it’s quite cheap.

  • FOMS Sizzling and Grill

Where to find it: #6 San Rafael Street, Kapitolyo, Pasig City

What we had: Liempo and Barbecue (can’t remember the price, but they’re around Php 80-100 each)

The best thing about this restaurant is that it’s just a minute away from home. Maybe even less than. But there is nothing really special about their inihaw.

  • Tomahawk Chops and Grill (soft opening)

Where to find it: 56-A East Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig City

What we had: Tomahawk Chops (Php 295) upgraded to rice to “dirty rice” for an additional Php 25

Okay, the chops are really tasty. People would even love this place. But personally, I don’t feel that shelling out Php 320 for a big chunk of porkchop is worth it.
