Haul - Crochet Hooks and Knitting Needles

Update as of August 2020: This was originally posted on my now defunct tumblr blog. I am consolidating all of my old posts for posterity and updating the posts as I see fit for the new layout and style of this space.

I received my package from Needle n’ Yarn Crafts (NYC) yesterday. Whoopee. I ordered these last Thursday night, and they were shipped on Friday. It got delivered to the office during the weekend. It was that fast!

I ordered a set of aluminum crochet hooks with bamboo grips and a set of 47” (120cm) circular knitting needles. I got some googley eyes for free too. I’ve been eyeing these actual sets on ebay for around 2 years already but I don’t have the heart to order anything outside the country. I’m really happy to find this store because their price markup wasn’t really high. If I ordered this on ebay I’d have to shoulder all the taxes and my EQ would not survive the waiting. So yeah, real thanks :D

The sizes of the crochet hook are as follows:2.5mm, 3.0mm, 3.5mm, 4.0mm, 4.5mm, 5.0mm, 5.5mm, 6.0mm. They have another set of hooks with bamboo grips that has smaller sizes: 1mm, 1.25mm, 1.5mm, 1.75mm and 2mm but doesn’t include the 3.5mm, 4.5mm and 5.5mm. I almost bought that one but I figured that I don’t really go below the 2mm size and I have 2mm hook already so I chose the set that has the range sizes I use most.

The hooks are very lightweight and they feel good in the hands. It doesn’t really strain my hands. The points of the hooks are not too blunt and not too sharp. I love that it doesn’t split yarn because I use a lot of splitty yarns. I’ve been working for years using the generic gold double pointed hooks and I won’t be touching those again, unless I really, really need to.

I have yet to try the knitting needles. I have no knitting projects on queue yet. But, I really plan to take knitting seriously this year. I promise those needles will be used.

Next thing I’m planning to buy from them is their yarn winder. But that would be months from now. I’m still convincing myself that I don’t really need it which is true, I guess. Haha.
